It's the Little Things

October 24th was the last bonus night before our "official" opening day. An update that day was posted to FB, but I forgot to share it here. I've summarized that FB post here and given a few tidbits about this week (so far) too.

Some of the highlights so far:

  1. Some of our sponsors came with their families, enjoyed the HH and watched others enjoy the Halloween fun. One of our sponsors brought their regional manager to experience our HH. He was impressed, better understood what we do, and had fun.

  2. The bride whose husband was abducted is Patricia and some visitors think the cow Paul the Alien is abducting should be called "Chicken Nugget." Clifford thinks "Chicken Nugget" is udder nonsense. I can't even begin to tell you how much that cracked me up!

  3. As a result of a Marvel trading card swap mayhem, and the sign at our driveway about Accessible Trick or Treating, we had some folks reach out to us about the HH and wheelchairs. After a few conversations and sharing pictures of some of the path way, offering alternatives/ solutions, we had a family with a young person in a motorized wheelchair visit. Her momma said: "It’s sometimes hard to find fully accessible and inclusive places to go! Thank you for helping my family tonight, my daughter said she had soooo much fun! " As a result, I realized that we needed to make that publicly known, and posted to FB.

  4. A Gran with a passel of grandkids came through on her scooter and went through the HH. She enjoyed the fun time with her grandkids.

  5. A three-year-old who ahs visited almost every night we've been open, so cutely described the vortex as the "bridge that turns upside down."

  6. We were gifted a Tinkerbell doll head by a young lady... perfect for Nightmare Before Christmas! I think her mamma was a bit embarrassed at her "giving junk."

Her brother loved the Lego and offered to give us a build (an item he created) for our display. While we were out purchasing the remainder of the treats for Halloween, they came with some Lego creations to lend for our display. I love it when kids share and help with their hearts.

  7. We are so grateful for amazing neighbour Jaden and Danielle from the Airdrie Food Bank. Their assistance, humour, and engagement with our visitors have been greatly appreciated!

  8. Counselor Tina Petrow stopped in and we had a lovely visit with her and her family. Thank-you for the kind post Tina!

  9. Global News came October 25, 2024. It will be a part of their Harvest of Haunts feature tonight!

What adventures lay in store for tonight?! I don't know, but we're excited and holding space for raised spirits, amazing fun, smiles, laughter, and abundance for the Airdrie Food Bank!
