It's going to be a challenge to stay focused with Home Depot and Lowes FINALLY having Halloween decor and props out and other exciting news! Picture an excited 5-year-old girl... that's my inner child coming out, doing a happy, incredulous excitement dance, clapping my hands, holding my breath, and then squealing with delight LOL.
The tasks this weekend:
1. Finish the tent repair and hang the black plastic. When this is done, we can start setting the back tent with Frankie, the mad scientist, his medical aid, the interns, the oscilloscope, and other scientific props!!
2. Build walls with nooks and crannies for Spider Alley. Last year was just walled across, but there is valuable real estate in those bump-outs and we have some salvaged and repurposed lumber!
3. Design the poster, confirm collaborators/ sponsors, and plan a sponsor/ collaborator night. This part takes my breath away - it's only our third year!!
We were sharing our excitement with people, looking for a bit of help with various aspects, and wondering about collaborators/ sponsors because we anticipate exponential growth so we'll need a bit more help and we've had some neat opportunities pop up.
One of those neat opportunities I can share right now is that the Costume Shoppe in Calgary will give a 10% discount to anyone who tells them about our HH and their offer!!)
Speaking of breathing... one never
knows when one will find just the right thingamajig we can use for this year's theme: Mad Science. An example of a "too awesome to not pick up for crazy cheap" is a vintage aspirator we found in Osoyoos, BC in March. It's never too early RIGHT?!
This takes us to the fourth task on the agenda: Create a prop that will utilize the aspirator and look like lungs!
